Why I Started Learning Digital Marketing & Why It Matters More Than Ever!
A year ago, if someone had asked me what digital marketing is, I would have most probably given an answer similar to something like marketing on an online platform!!! I had no idea what it was.
But the irony? I was and we all are encountering it every single day.
Like most people, I had moments where I’d search for something online and then later If I open Instagram or YouTube TADA- there it was. The same product in an ad. I had no clue it was the doings of digital marketing!
I’ve heard about SEO but didn’t know what exactly it is. All of us when we search for something on Chrome, most likely visit and consider the first few results. Didn’t know it was SEO – a part of digital marketing making it possible.
My Journey to Digital Marketing.
Drawing, Writing, Reading, and Crafts are what occupied most of my time in my childhood. I loved experimenting with all the creative things. By the time I finish my drawing book, another pile of drawing books will be there in my home…and my parents made sure of it. I still remember the moments when my Malayalam teacher in high school used to appreciate me for my essays.
Fast forward, I chose Computer for my bachelor’s and I had no idea where it would take me. During my studies, I discovered UI/UX Design and would spend hours practicing. Soon after I graduated I started working as a web developer and now it’s almost two years into corporate.
My perspective on websites and applications has completely changed ever since. I no longer use them but analyze them. I see it through the eyes of both a developer and a designer. But somewhere along the way, I felt like something was missing. It felt like I had lost a part of myself – the part that I loved beyond just writing lines of code. That’s when I realized I needed to bring creativity back into my work.
During the time when I was thinking about it, was it by coincidence or what my friend told me randomly about digital marketing. Yes, that’s when I stumbled upon it.
Even before I knew what digital marketing was, I often wondered: How do websites come first in Google? Does Google automatically analyze if the business is good or not? There are a lot of businesses that have their websites and what makes it come on the first page of Google? How do people make sure their website is seen? Because what’s the point of creating a beautiful website if no one ever finds it?
And that curiosity led me here – to a field that blends technology and creativity. Is technology and creativity what it takes here? Yet to find out!
The Relevance of Digital Marketing
Everything is getting digitized. From radio to television to smartphones, the world, and technology is evolving.
In this era, whether you are a freelancer, an entrepreneur, or a business, your online presence defines your success. It helps to build trust, and an identity and leaves an influence on people. It helps you to reach a wider audience. Thus, we can sum it up – Digital marketing is no longer an option; It’s a necessity.
Digital marketing is about building relationships, telling stories, and making an impact!
